"Couple Days of Romance" on the Trails

"A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and…wow!" Who says romance is dead? This Trails trip for two makes a great anniversary date or a memorable second honeymoon. Begin (Friday night) at Woodlawn Inn in Ridge. Set the mood on the moonlit balcony of the Calvert Suite, gaze into each other's eyes while flames smoulder in the background (in one of this suite's two fireplaces!).

Day 1: Saturday, a leisurely morning unfolds in Leonardtown: visit the wharf and shop the galleries. (Guys, you'll get bonus points if you secretly purchase the beaded bracelet she admired and surprise her later at dinner.) In the afternoon, take a trip to a "his and hers" art studio, Whiskey Creek Wood Works. SHE can visit Marta Kelsey's studio in the main house, while HE explores Dave Kelsey's creations in the workshop next door. Enjoy dinner at Café des Artistes (order the oysters if they're in season…the food of love!). Treat her to a wine tasting at Port of Leonardtown Winery and buy a bottle or two for later. Then on to Point Lookout State Park for a romantic sunset. End up back at Woodlawn Inn or explore a different B&B (the next day centers in Solomons) like the Blue Heron Inn, Back Creek Inn or Solomons Victorian Inn.

Day 2: Sunday, explore Solomons' shops and stroll the waterfront (you're required to hold hands during all strolls on this trip). Stop at carmen's gallery. Slip off to Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Art Center, where you can steal an art-inspired kiss on the shady (secluded!) paths through the sculpture gardens. Lunch at Lotus Kitchen (order an oversized dessert and request two spoons). Visit Cove Point Winery or Solomons Island Winery in Lusby for a tasting, then on to Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery, where you can lounge in chairs overlooking the vines. Dine at the Dry Dock Restaurant overlooking the water (again, timed to the sunset). Be extravagant and stay one more night at a B&B. (Bring along some scented candles, bubble bath and romantic music and unveil them tonight.)
